Tea Spill on Blogging? Coming across Amaryllisrue

Some of you has been asking me to update my blog posts but I lack the motivation to do so. I only blog when I have the inspiration to do so. I don't have a specific theme for my blog though. Some of you blog about your vacation, your life, your work and relationship but I have no specific worthy events to note. Alright, I do have quite a few but plenty of them are heart-wrenching so I guess I will not talk about some of these things here because I rather those memories slowly slipping off my mind and lost in the word of beyond.

By the way, I randomly blog reviews! Random to you but since I came across these products, why not share my thoughts? I don't get paid of course :P Welp, I'm pretty busy with my student life to blog during those 5 years. At that time, I'd rather use some power nap than spending time to think what to type here! Plus medical student's life is all about study study study study blah blah blah. Nothing interesting to blog about unless you have some tea to spill on someone. Perhaps life as a house officer would be more interesting with more tea to spill but I don't think anyone have the time to blog in detail!

About 10-15 years back, blogs are pretty popular among my classmates. Pretty interesting to listen to gossip at that times. Some diss their friends and expect that nobody will know. If you don't want people to know then why bother posting it online? Why bother asking people to follow your blog? Why bother deleting your blogpost after people read it?

Some others will write about their love life and who they crush on. Some just treat blogs like a diary and pour out their feelings. There are some who are quite popular so they managed to earn some money from it. Some who are stingy in sharing their opinions pffft. When I asked why pick WordPress over Blogger, what was your response? "Aiyah, its the same!" Yeah * rolls eyes* then why you picked WordPress duh.

After SPM, I do have a Tumblr account where I reblog pretty pics! My friend introduced me to Tumblr at that time and to be honest, when I first started, I have no idea what's the hype about it. As a beginner at that time, I have no theme at all. I have no idea who do I want to target my blogs at. Should I blog about quotes? Pretty pics?? It's so easy to get lost if you do not have a theme. But first, you need a catchy blog name! I remembered that my first blog url was mocha-inthesnow. I wanted something that warms you up when you are cold. Which explains why I have falling snowflakes in my Tumblr! Some had the Nyan cat cursor, I tried to have the rainbow ones but it didn't suit my blog so I scrapped that idea. I used mocha-inthesnow url for a pretty long time because I quit Tumblr for quite a while. Busy with  studies at that time. The URL is nice, but it's not unique. It's cute that I still have a cup of Mocha for the profile pic! Probably in 2014 when I decided to change my url name and I saw that my preferred url was taken; oh well. I'd just use amaryllis-rue instead.

Snowflakes!!

Towards the end of 2012, I spent lots of time figuring out what should I pick for my username. Should I use my name? Will it be too risky? What if I used acronyms? After hours of thinking, I decided to go with Amaryllisrue. I first created that username on Instagram and Twitter. I enrolled into Foundation in Science on January 2013 and we exchanged our profiles. "What does Amaryllisrue mean?" Everyone was asking me what's its meaning, but I just kept mum on it. It's enough if I'm the only one who knows its symbolic meaning.

I created Blogger on May 2014 because I wanted to share my Zalora shopping experience and oh boy! That post was a hit :O One of my recent posts on Huawei Pocket Photo Printer is also pretty high up on the list, not everyone writes a review on Huawei Pocket Photo Printer. I wish Huawei will do something about it because the product does have a lot of potential! It's affordable however it  succumb to its own flaws. Huawei decided to ignore us users? I don't even know who to contact or how to contact them when my Huawei Pocket Photo Printer has a problem. All the white lines ugh. And I realise the photo colour is not as intense as before compared to the first time I use it. Such a pity though. You can check out my post on Huawei Pocket Photo Printer at this link. https://amaryllisrue.blogspot.com/2019/10/huawei-pocket-photo-printer-review-cv80.html

It's difficult for me to draw hits to my blog because I can't cater to mass audience. As I said earlier, I do not have a theme. One of my friends, she reviews makeup products on Insta stories, one blogs about her medical student life, another blogs about her thoughts in the form of story. Pretty interesting. I do have a collection of short stories which I wrote. I planned to publish them on wattpad initially BUT I lost the draft when I transferred my documents to a new phone. UGH the heartache. I get my inspiration from my dreams. I used to dream a lot during my highschool days and I jot down my dreams in a book to channel my inspiration. Can't remember where I've put them after a massive spring clean. T.T or did I lost them in my university's hostel? :O

The blogosphere is very different then from now. Last time we do have quality content, interesting tea spills! I do miss XiaXue's blogging, for some reason I can binge read her blog. She stopped blogging about 4 years back but she's pretty active on other social media platforms. After that saga with Gushcloud, I wondered what happened to them. Anyways I don't think bloggers earn as much as before. Our community are lazy to read! They prefer photos! Plus did I mention my blog is wordy? HAHA! If I'm not mistaken, Adsense wanted to have a number of unique hits on your blog before allowing you to put an advertisement. Of course, why would they wanna pay you if you don't have viewers?

Well, I've seen a blogger who got sponsored by a brand, she only have 300 followers on Instagram + low engagement rate on her posts; which surprises some bloggers/influencers! Maybe she does have a high engagement rate on her blog, who knows? 😏 Some bloggers started out small, they engage readers with interesting contents and they blog regularly. A handful of those begin by reviewing products they usually use, once they gain readers; they gain sponsors too. It may setback if the scenario is reversed; where a blogger gains sponsors first then only he/she creates content. Usually brands engage social media influencers to promote their products, if you lack readers; would you get sponsors in future? What they want is numbers. Let's be honest, those brands who sponsor you wanted to have more exposure on their brand and they wanted you to flatter their products; lesser readers means lesser exposure to the brand and thus she never got any sponsors after that.

It's getting too wordy so I'll stop for now. See ya with another post, I'll share some pics from my trip to Australia :D
